Decolonizing the Heart: The Voice as Bridge

Sunday, April 12

10AM PT ○ 1PM ET ○ 6PM GMT

Join Aviva Arts’ Artistic Director Debórah Eliezer and special guest Amal Bisharat, Director of Aviva Arts' latest work in development, SWITCH via Zoom.

Aviva Arts invites you into a morning of voice, storytelling and collective exploration with multidisciplinary artist Amal Bisharat.

Through guided vocal practices, storytelling and embodied exercises, we will explore the voice as a bridge between heart and mind. Together, we’ll create space for personal and cultural stories to emerge, discovering how expression can deepen presence, connection, and belonging.

Drawing from her work as a Palestinian-American theater maker, director and producer, Amal brings a practice rooted in storytelling, cultural memory and community. Her work invites participants to reconnect with their voice as a creative and transformative force.

This session will offer space to soften the nervous system, connect across differences, and reimagine what it means to belong.

Participatory in nature, the gathering may include vocal exploration, personal reflection, storytelling prompts, and collective dialogue. Open to anyone seeking creative expression, grounded connection, and tools for navigating challenging times with courage and care.

No prior performance or storytelling experience is necessary: all are welcome to participate!

We’re delighted to welcome Amal for this session of Decolonizing the Heart. Amal has been collaborating with Aviva Arts on several current projects, including SWITCH, and has previously joined us for gatherings such as Power of Poetry. It’s a joy to continue nurturing this creative collaboration together.
